For the Parent::Battle Cry

Valor without thought is reckless. When it comes to standing for what’s right, we should be fearless, not reckless. When it comes to standing for what’s right, we should be fearless, not reckless. When we are in situations that call for valor, our courageous actions must have margin for thought and careful planning. When we are in situations that call for valor, our courageous actions must have margin for thought & careful planning. Sometimes we do this planning ahead of time, like deciding how you are going to respond to ethical questions at work. Sometimes it means we take a step and reflect before acting. In any case, when we call upon our valor and say, “charge,” we need to know what we are doing and why. When we call upon our #valor & say, “charge,” we need to know what we are doing & why.

For Your Son::Call to Arms

Ask this question: Do you think it's courageous to charge in without thinking?

It might be, but it is not smart. Don’t think having valor means you don’t think about your situation and find the right course of action. Sometimes the better act of valor is to wait. Sometimes the better act of #valor is to wait. Sometimes quick action is necessary. You won’t know which if you don’t think about it. It's important to take a stand, but do so with both your heart and your mind.

Weekend Activity

Create some situations that call for valor, some may require immediate action, like a building is on fire and someone needs help. Some will require thought, like a friend is constantly being bullied by the same person. Play a game where action situations require flexing your muscles, and thought situations require touching your head as if to think.

Act for the Month

Have your child encourage his friends to pick one day per week to wear their Warrior Poet shirts. Do it for the whole month. While you are doing it, make sure the children choose good things to do on that day. Picking up trash, helping others in need, and being kind are all good suggestions. If you capture the moment, share it with us on Social Media and we'll share it with our fans! Mention @MyWarriorPoet and use #ValorAct!
